Sonic Acts is a leading platform for new developments in electronic and digital art and sound art. Along with a year-round programme, the organisation is notable for its Biennial, which takes place at a variety of locations in Amsterdam.
Sonic Acts supports research, development and presentation of cutting-edge music, visual art, science, and technology in concerts, lectures, club music, film screenings, workshops, exhibitions, and more. Based in Amsterdam, Sonic Acts works with national and international artists, partners, and kindred cultural and academic institutions.

Intern Communication
30 hours per week
About the internship
The Sonic Acts communication team is responsible for communicating, promoting and marketing the Sonic Acts programme in all its forms. As an intern you’ll be the right-hand of the communications team, giving you insight into the entire communications process as you participate in making the activities of Sonic Acts visible. In February 2026, the Sonic Acts Biennial will take place at various locations in Amsterdam and beyond like Paradiso, Stedelijk, and W139. The programme will include a conference, workshops, exhibitions, performance and club nights and much, much more. During your internship, you will mostly be learning about this large-scale and exciting programme.
As an intern, you will be supporting us with the following tasks:
- Keeping the websites up to date.
- Content planning and creation for websites, social media and newsletters.
- Suggesting ideas for (online) marketing campaigns.
- Requesting communication materials from artists and artist management.
- Requesting quotes, ordering materials, and making timetables, banners and signage.
- Processing web shop orders.
- Practical support such as taking minutes during meetings.
- On-site communication support during activities and programmes like guest list management, signage, shop and info desk support.
- Maintaining the archive, both digitally and in print.
Requirements:
- You have a college- or university-level of thinking and are ideally a student doing the internship in the context of your education.
- You have an affinity with Sonic Acts and its disciplines (art, music, science and technology).
- You write and speak fluent English (the Sonic Acts team mainly communicates in English).
- You are adept at social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
- Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as audio editing tools, is an advantage.
- Experience and/or training in the field of communication and marketing is an advantage.
- You are expected to be flexible; our activities also take place during the weekends or in the evening, and the working hours adjust accordingly.
- You live in Amsterdam or the surrounding area or are prepared to travel to the office.
- Applicants for this role must have either Dutch citizenship or a valid residency permit/visa that allows them to participate in the internship for its full duration.
