Treehouse NDSM is a breeding ground (‘broedplaats’) located on the former NDSM shipyard at the shores of the IJ River in Amsterdam-North.
Treehouse NDSM supports multi-disciplinary artists in bringing their projects to life by offering 100 individual and affordable studios for rent, as well as access to exhibition spaces and the opportunity of participating in a vibrant and collaborative artistic community. It is an artistic incubator where artists and audiences use their imagination to create their vision of the world. The complex is a small village, built over two floors from recycled sea containers and building sheds. Renting out the studios is the main source of income for the Treehouse’s operation.
The operating period runs from 2020 to at least 2028. In this period Treehouse on the former NDSM shipyard wants to grow into a high-profile place for talent development where both makers and audience want to explore the boundaries of art. With the creatives, they develop a program to connect with their neighbors. The community of makers is diverse in terms of art discipline, experience, age, nationality.
Board member
0,5 hour per week
The board of the Treehouse NDSM Foundation is ultimately responsible for the breeding place; determining budgets, strategies and policies, controlling, and thinking along with the management that is responsible for executing all this. Execution is delegated to the director and a team of around 5 employees. The board meets 4 times a year.
The board is looking for two enthusiastic board members willing to contribute to the further development of the Treehouse and subsequently the former NDSM-shipyard in Amsterdam-Noord.
Generally the board strives to contain knowledge, experience and networks in the domains art & culture, marketing, accountancy, governance, and social-cultural urban development.
We are looking for board members who can have knowledge one of more of those topics
- Marketing strategies in art field.
- Networking with the music or visual arts sector.
- Building an involved physical community.
- Sustainable building.
In its composition, the board strives for diversity in terms of age, ethnic background, gender, expertise, experience and skills. Board members are appointed for a 4-year term and can be renewed once. The compensation for this role is €150 per board meeting.
