One of the most innovative and prominent orchestras in the Netherlands. Performing at the highest artistic level, our aim is to reach as many people as possible with live symphonic music through an extensive and varied programme. From large symphonic repertoire to smaller and more intimate productions, from popular repertoire to exciting crossovers, from educational productions to new concert formulas in special locations. We continue to innovate and explore new concepts and productions with institutions such as opera, dance and (youth) theatre. Phion is based in Gelderland and Overijssel and operates from two locations: Arnhem and Enschede.

Phion Heersink Academy
The Phion Heersink Academy (new from August 2025) is the bridge between your education and the professional world of music. In this first year, four musicians will be invited to join our Academy. Our academy members will work with renowned conductors, soloists and experienced musicians. If selected, this is your ticket to work on symphonic, opera, educational and chamber music productions across Phion’s diverse range. In addition to the artistic experience you will gain, you will be able to take part in audition training with mental coaching, as well as masterclasses and workshops. Call it a complete and valuable next step on your way to a successful career as a professional musician.

Position
The vacancy is for the position of Academist Flute. As a member of our orchestra you will regularly rehearse and perform in Arnhem and Enschede, and perform throughout Gelderland, Overijssel and beyond.

Profile

  • You will not be older than 27 years* of age on 1 September 2025.
  • You should preferably have completed your Master’s degree at a conservatory, but it is also possible to apply if you will be in the second year of your Master’s degree by September 2025.
  • You must be a citizen of a European Union country plus Norwey, Island, Liechtenstein or Switserland. Or are already in the possession of a valid Dutch work permit.
  • You will be available for a minimum of ten weeks to participate in various productions that reflect Phion’s programming.

*The Academy is geared toward talent at the beginning of their musical career.

Terms of Employment

  • An Academist contract for the Academy for 10 weeks during the period from 19.08.25 to 03.07.26.
  • The schedule of the weeks in which participation is expected to take place will be announced before the summer of 2025.
  • Terms of contract, playing obligations, and remuneration according to the Collective Labour Agreement Remplaçanten.
  • The position is located in Enschede / Arnhem.

Selection procedure

  • A pre-selection will be made on the basis of on the CV and the audition video.
  • Candidates from non-EU countries must be in possession of a valid work and residence permit for the Netherlands and are requested to enclose this permit with their application.
  • The selection will be made on the basis of an audition. If a candidate is nominated by the audition committee, an interview will take place.
