affect lab is an award-winning creative studio and research practice. Graphic Designer

32 hours per week

Profile
You are a passionate self-starter who loves graphic design. You want to create some positive social change in the world! You thrive in a busy studio with multiple projects on the go at the same time. You’re comfortable multi-tasking across different mediums (digital, print, motion, event and exhibition design). You can switch between multiple projects on any given day. You enjoy experimenting with new design techniques and formats (analogue and digital). Gender politics is close to your heart (or you’re super curious about it!). You love stories and you see the power they have to spark new conversations in the public domain and how graphic design can contribute to that. You get how design is a tool for inclusivity, to make everyone feel seen and heard. You are a great communicator and you know how to prioritise tasks. You thrive in small teams. You respect the need for deadlines. You are proactive and can work independently if needed.

Your role at affect lab

  • As affect lab’s graphic designer you would be responsible for creating and maintaining the studio’s house style across digital and print.
  • Envisioning, creating and executing a visual identity for each new project in the studio.
  • Translating design research into an accessible and exciting format for our community of followers and audiences ( books, zines, web publications).
  • Supporting the affect lab team with the design of marketing material, e.g design of a slide deck for a presentation; creating a poster for an upcoming project presentation or designing social media posts for upcoming events.
  • Collaborate with printers and other vendors to ensure that digital, print and packaging designs are produced to the highest standards.
  • Work closely with other freelance designers and illustrators who work on a project-by-project basis with the studio.
  • You would work closely and in collaboration with affect lab’s Creative Director, Klasien van de Zandschulp.

Requirements

  • You have at least 3 years working experience as a graphic designer (freelance or in a company).
  • You have at least 2 references from people who have worked closely with you and can vouch for your skills and experience.
  • You have the right to work in the Netherlands.
  • You demonstrate a varied style in your graphic work.
  • You have experience in print, digital, and exhibition design, demonstrating versatility across various media.
  • You are fluent in the Adobe suite package including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of motion and video editing is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of, and interest in, interactive design and design by code is preferred.
  • You speak and write fluent English.
  • Knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus.
