Description of the department
Dealing with clay as the core of our discipline, the Ceramics department is a place where students are free to engage with other techniques and materials outside the field of ceramics. In its own separate workshop, the Ceramics department offers an opportunity to develop practical and sculptural skills. Students are encouraged to explore beyond the boundaries of the discipline with their sculptural and spatial work employing old and new technologies alongside each other. In this environment, a solid technical introduction to the ceramics process including constructing shapes, making moulds, casting, turning and glazing are offered.

There is a constant interaction between experimentation, creation, reflection and developing ideas among the students, lecturers and technicians in the communal workspace. Individual supervision and group discussions are encouraged to share knowledge of the medium.
