The World Press Photo Foundation believes in the power of showing and the importance of seeing high-quality visual stories. Our purpose is to connect the world to the stories that matter.
The Education and Outreach team oversees the organization’s professional education, visual thinking and community outreach activities. From June to November, the foundation organizes the 2024 Joop Swart Masterclass, its best-known educational program for emerging photographers in the field of documentary photography, photojournalism, and visual storytelling.

Launched in 1994, the Joop Swart Masterclass invites 12 photographers from all around the world to develop a project, and develop the tools to make a viable career in photography. It takes place online from June to mid-October 2024, and in person from 27 October to 2 November.

We are looking for a motivated intern to join the Education and Outreach team for six months, starting in June/July.

Education & Outreach Intern

32 to 40 hours per week

As an Education and Outreach intern, you will be closely involved in the organization of the masterclass and other programs. The internship will give you hands-on experience with organizing educational activities, event planning and management (online and offline), and insights into documentary photography and photojournalism. You will also get to meet professionals in the photographic community: from photographers and curators to photo editors and festival directors.

Responsibilities

  • Programs and education support.
  • Day-to-day administrative support.
  • Supporting development and implementation of education activities.
  • Assisting in the preparation of education and outreach events, online and offline.
  • Conducting research to support projects.
  • Communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing the general inbox.
  • Updating photographer databases.

Event production

  • Support the planning, logistics and implementation of the Joop Swart Masterclass leading up to and during the event in 28 October – 2 November.
  • Working with vendors and venues, researching program ideas, drafting and sending out invitations, tracking RSVPs, reaching out to target groups, assembling materials and content.
  • Assisting and collaborating with different teams to make the event a success
  • Liaising with different stakeholders, which may include suppliers, partners, photographers et cetera.

Your profile

  • You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program.
  • You have a strong interest in photography, media and/or arts and culture.
  • You are a quick-thinking self-starter who has the ability to multitask.
  • You are creative, well organized and have a good eye for detail.
  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken. Additional languages would be an advantage.
  • You have strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.

Our offer
The World Press Photo Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization with its office in Amsterdam. The organization employs around 25 professionals.

We offer an internship with a variety of tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic working atmosphere. You will get the chance to work in a highly driven environment during a busy and important period.

During your internship you will be supervised by the Project Manager Education and Outreach. You will learn how to plan education programs, project and time management, and of course, photojournalism and documentary photography.

We would like you to start in June/July 2024 for a period of six months (exact dates are open to discussion). On average, you will work 32 to 40 hours per week, with a minimum of 2 days at the office. We offer a compensation of € 500,- (gross/full-time) per month.
