Sonic Acts is a leading platform for new developments in electronic and digital art forms. With an extensive year-round programme in the Netherlands and abroad, and a large biennial festival in Amsterdam, we produce, present and distribute a wide range of artistic works. Intern Communications & Publishing

Are you interested in art sound, the environmental humanities, transdisciplinary art, science and technology? Do you want to develop your writing skills while learning more about independent publishing?

As an intern at Sonic Acts, you will be an integral part of our communications team, gaining valuable insight into the entire communications process while contributing to making our activities visible to a wider audience. We are looking for a student, recent graduate, or individual who is thinking of embarking on a career in the cultural sector. The ideal candidate is adept in various communications platforms, writes fluently in English and lives in Amsterdam or the surrounding area.

As an intern, you can expect to work on…

  • Sonic Acts Press: Helping to run our small, independent press by managing the webshop and magazine subscriptions alongside other administrative duties.
  • Online editorial: Annotating and preparing texts and images for online publication, including essays and interviews from our archive, as well as updating news items and artist pages
  • Magazine: Providing support with editorial tasks in preparation for the next issue of Sonic Acts magazine Ecoes, including sourcing, acquiring, and captioning relevant images for publication.
  • Interview opportunity: Potentially conducting and editing an interview with an artist/theorist/curator for publication in Ecoes.
  • Communications: Working with MailChimp, proofreading content, and organising images, design, videos, gifs, etc. for socials and website.
  • Admin support: Keeping detailed notes during team meetings to ensure effective communication and follow-up on action items.

From candidates, we expect the following…

  • You have college- or university-level thinking and are ideally doing the internship in the context of your education or training;
  • You have an affinity with Sonic Acts and its disciplines (art, music, science and technology);
  • You write and speak fluent English (Sonic Acts communicates mainly in English);
  • You are highly organised and meet deadlines;
  • You are an adept at social media, such as Instagram, X, YouTube, SoundCloud;
  • You have experience working with desktop computers, as well as office and content management software (Dropbox, Google Calendars, Slack, task managers, Excel, WordPress, …);
  • Experience and/or training in the field of publishing or marketing is also an advantage;
  • You live in Amsterdam or the surrounding area or are prepared to travel to the office in central Amsterdam.

Sonic Acts offers…

  • A part-time internship from September 2024 through February 2025 (exact dates to be confirmed in conversation);

  • € 175,- gross per month for 2 days per week, in accordance with the guidelines of De Zaak Nu;

Please note that this is an internship; an internship at Sonic Acts offers the opportunity to gain lots of experience and substantive knowledge in the field of marketing and communications in a dynamic working environment. Sonic Acts staff will train the intern continuously throughout the internship, with many opportunities for feedback and growth. The internship schedule can also be made flexible to fit with a university curriculum or other work.
