The Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam is looking for an Education Manager for 0.8-1.0 fte | Vacancy for a Paid position, Full-time, Part-time | Deadline: 22-09-2023
The Willem de Kooning academy is an internationally leading academy for bachelor’s and master’s programs in media, art, design, leisure and art education. The academy stands for groundbreaking art education, in which connections with social partners and education partners (RASL) give substance to an academy that constantly questions its own boundaries. In addition to art education, the academy also offers economic education aimed at entrepreneurship in the creative industry.
WdKA’s mission and vision are aimed at developing new ideas about the relevance of the artist, educator, producer or designer and to help our students become the artistic professionals that will respond to tomorrow’s world with a critical vision, energy and care. Our education is distinguished by the three pillars, majors, stations and practices that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and provides our students with the unique opportunity to become proficient in both their craft and the context in which they come to work. Next to this research is a key pillar. WdKA is a large academy that nevertheless feels small in the way in which teams of teachers and students work together. EDI, security, curiosity and ambition are values that are cherished regardless of the size and associated complexity of the organization and systems. With approximately 400 colleagues, WdKA educates more than 2500 students.
For our renowned Art Academy we are looking for an educational leader who can combine vision on art education with solid organization and facilitating leadership:
What are you going to do?
The team of education managers at the Willem de Kooning Academy work on innovative, contextualized and meaningful art education. Together they carry the responsibility for all aspects of the programs, with each of them having specific focus areas within their joint commitment.
Together with the other education managers you will ensure excellent and innovative art education, research, operational excellence, quality assurance and establish a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning- and working environment. You work closely together with the courseleaders of each program, managers of the various departments and support staff.
You co-develop educational and organizational policies and lead their implementation. You report to the WdKA dean on quality assurance and enhancement and have responsibility for the allocated budgets.

You practice inclusive leadership and stand for connection, transparency, clear communication and attention to the well-being of students and staff.
Based on your experience in education you recognize the importance of a well-organized educational program and of strong didactical capabilities of tutors for the development of individual students. You also understand that art education requires room for creativity and autonomy, but at the same time a solid foundation and clear frameworks. To balance this you are curious, involved and accessible as a person, and you can just as easily focus on results within the agreements and frameworks that have been made.
