About UAx – Support and Mentorship Platform for Art Students in Ukraine
The UAx platform is ELIA’s support and mentorship initiative for art students and higher arts education institutions in Ukraine. UAx was developed in 2022 in collaboration with the Abakanowicz Arts and Culture Charitable Foundation (AACCF), the primary funder of the platform. Other contributors are the ‘sister schools’ (art universities from outside of Ukraine), all of whom will contribute time and expertise to the project, as well as drawing on mobility funds provided by the European Union’s Erasmus+ project. The press launch of the project took place in November 2022 at Tate Modern in London. For this launch, a short documentary film (entitled “Creating in Conflict) was produced in Lviv (UA), featuring several Ukrainian art students sharing their experience of the war. The project was then kick-started at ELIA’s Biennial Conference in Helsinki in November 2022 with representatives from arts education institutions from inside and outside of Ukraine attending several community-building workshops. The year 2023 will be the pilot year for UAx, with a gradual scale-up planned for 2024 and 2025.
