Jan Mot: Gallery Director

Jan Mot in Brussel is looking for a Gallery Director for 38 hours a week | Vacancy for a Paid position, Full-time | Deadline: none

Since its creation in the mid 90’s, the gallery’s mission is to support a relatively small, intergenerational group of living artists working in different media and traditions, representing unique positions in the art world. While some artists began their relationship with the gallery world with us, others joined our program later in their careers, sometimes after a period of relative absence from the art market. The gallery also represents the estates of several artists, in particular stanley brouwn, Philippe Thomas and Ian Wilson. It has gained international recognition with its program and its commitment to the represented artists.

The gallery has since the beginning been strong in initiating or participating in the production of new works by the artists and it supported in multiple ways exhibitions in international institutions and museums. Since 2006 it is present in Art Basel (Galleries section) and regularly at other international art fairs.

Five times a year the gallery’s newspaper is published with news on the artists, the gallery and other types of commissioned contributions.

Jan Mot has been a member of the selection committee of FIAC (2014-2017) and since 2017 of Art Basel. He is also a co-founder and member of the International Gallery Alliance (IGA).

We are looking for an experienced person to reinforce our small team as

Gallery Director

38 hours a week

You are a person with significant gallery experience who is able to complement and support the gallery’s vision. As a director you will be confident working independently, but also as part of a small close-knit team. You will work intuitively, responding to day to day tasks as well as developing projects and clients with a more long term view. As a director with experience you have developed your own networks which will complement those already held by the gallery. You accept that your tasks will include international travel and require evening and week- end work when necessary for example at art fairs, and client and gallery events. You are able to work to budget and deadlines, be comfortable with public speaking and you have excellent communication and writing skills. You speak and write fluently French (and/or Dutch) and English, other languages are a bonus. You have good knowledge of the gallery’s programme and ideas for how to amplify our projects.
