Who are we looking for?
The Classical Department of Conservatorium Maastricht is looking to appoint an inspiring and informed musician who has an established and excellent artistic career and reputation in guiding young musicians of tomorrow towards realizing their musical aspirations.

We are seeking to appoint a teacher Wind Band Conducting with an (inter)national reputation as a professional conductor and teacher. Essential is a proven track record in the field of wind band conducting. The ideal candidate will also possess teaching experience in higher music education. The candidate has experience in transferring skills and attitudes related to the professional field in a broad sense.
The candidate is a skilled communicator across cultures and has a driven personality who takes initiative, ownership and thinks creatively and solution-oriented. The candidate can work within a Dutch higher educational institution, and collaborate with other actors at different levels within the organization.

Conservatorium Maastricht is currently recalibrating its educational programme. As a part of this we are rethinking the conducting education at our academy. The new teacher for Wind Band Conducting will work together with the orchestra and choir conducting teachers to develop this new programme within the vision on education of Conservatorium Maastricht.

Excellent English skills in listening/comprehension, speaking and writing are a must as the Conservatorium is a fully international institution.
The candidate is willing to participate in further training within Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in the context of pedagogy and/or assessment.

This is part of your work

  • Teach Wind Band Conducting lessons and associated subject specific courses: e.g. score reading, instrumentation, knowledge of musical instruments, knowledge of literature, playing from score, rehearsing techniques (during practicums with ensembles).
  • Assess students in the field of conducting.
  • Actively recruit students, and select candidate students.
  • Involvement in the further development of the educational programme.
  • Optional education and artistic activities.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced (international) performer on a high professional level.
  • Teaching experience on a high level is preferred.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Open minded to innovation, research and entrepreneurship.
  • Proactive, cooperative and willing to collaborate.

Terms and conditions of employment:
An appointment of maximum 0,2 fte (depending of the number of students) for a duration of 1 year with the Stichting Zuyd Hogeschool, with the prospect of a permanent appointment.

A salary depending on academic background and professional experience, of maximum scale 11 according to the cao-hbo, the collective agreement for universities of applied sciences. (maximum € 5,332.48 before taxes, per month, under fulltime employment). A contract based on zzp (self-employment) isn’t possible.
